Dyslexia Simulation

October is Dyslexia Awareness Month

Join us Wednesday, October 23rd at 6:15 for a dyslexia simulation!

Ever wonder what it’s like to be dyslexic? The Tutoring Link and The Bowers family will be hosting a dyslexia simulation to answer this question.  Participants will experience what it’s like to go through school as a student with dyslexia while being guided through six different simulations.

We hope participants will gain a better understanding of and empathy for people with dyslexia.

Orton-Gillingham Reader’s Week:

Students will work on phonological awareness (segmenting, rhyming, manipulating sounds), syllable division, spelling patterns & rules, comprehension and spelling using the Orton Gillingham hands-on, multi-sensory learning approach with Laurel. Rising 3rd-5th grades.  FULL!

Week of July 6th
OG for Newbies:
This camp is for students who are new to the Orton Gillingham method of language instruction. Campers will learn phonological awareness skills, syllable types and spelling generalizations with Laurel. Rising 1st-2nd grade.

Week of July 20th

Advanced Orton Gillingham Camp:
Dig into the roots of the English language!  This camp is for students who have been utilizing the Orton Gillingham approach.  Campers will delve into morphology and etymology through scientific word investigation with Laurel. Rising 3rd-6th grades.        2 SPOTS LEFT!

Week of August 3rd
Kinder Readiness:
This camp will help rising Kindergartners get ready for their first year of primary school. Campers will focus is on print knowledge, phonological awareness skills, fine and gross motor skills, linguistic awareness, emergent writing, number/counting concept, sequencing, cutting, and more. Rising Kindergartners. 3 SPOTS LEFT!

Week of August 10th
Book Club:
Join us for a book club to read Tales of A Fourth Grade Nothing.
Craftivities and more!  With Laurel. Rising 3rd-5th grades. 2 SPOTS LEFT!

Small groups and 1-on-1 tutoring will be available Monday – Thursdays from 1:00-7:00 PM

I Can Speak Spanish 2-Musical Immersion Fall Semester

We are excited to have Giovanna Guerra back with her fabulous Spanish immersion program!

How non-native parents can raise a bilingual child?
“I Can Speak Spanish 2″ can help your kids learn a new language through musical immersion. My Spanish School Program offers a fun and easy way to develop true bilingual fluency through songs, story time, rhymes, games and a taste of the Latino food and dance traditions. They will become not only bilinguals but also bicultural people.
We provide all the materials: Cd’s, DVD’s, books, flash cards and worksheets to continue practicing at home.

Number of Students:
4 to 6 students per class and according to their levels.

Semester dates:
Saturdays 10:00-12:30 2 hour class
Mondays 4:30-6:00 1.5 hour class
September 8 through January 31

Initial Registration: $70

ACT Prep and College Essay Writing small group sessions

Students will join Denise Pivarnik-Nova, ACT college board consultant, author of 400 Essential SAT Words and former high school English teacher to prepare for the next ACT (September 8th) and learn how to compose thoughtful, well written college essays.  Groups are limited to four students.

What will parents and students gain from these hour long sessions? –  Everyone knows that the college degree is the new high school diploma, but did you know that being smart is no longer enough to get into a good school?  You need to be eligible (graduate high school), you need to be qualified (have taken the right high school classes to be considered college prepared), and you need to be competitive.  Collegiate Concierge & Coaching, LLC works with students and their families to come up with customized college plans.  Join us for an afternoon where CCC will share with you what you need to be doing fall, spring and summer to prepare your high school freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior to achieve acceptance into the right college!

What questions can they expect answers to? What do you need to be doing today to prepare your student.  What should you be planning for spring and what do you need to be thinking about for next summer? We give you an outline of what this next academic year should look like in terms of planning for college for your student.  In addition, bring your questions and we will bring answers!

Founder of Twist Kids Yoga, Mary Beth Bender has created an offering called ‘Stress Reduction and Self Care for Parents’ It is based on the philosophy that to bring Yoga & Mindfulness to children, we must first give the self care tools to parents. Parents can learn the proper tools and techniques to use at home to help alleviate stress, anxiety, burnout and negativity.

Mary Beth’s Bio:

Mary Beth is an E-RYT 500. She is also a RCYT with 2 full certifications through Little Flower Yoga and Grounded Kids Yoga. She has also studied with Yoga Kids International, Asheville Yoga Center and continues to see inspiration in the work of others.

Mary Beth created Twist Kids Yoga with the intention to bring more mindfulness & yoga to the younger generations. She believes in the positive ripple effect that this work has on the world.

Mary Beth is a child at heart and has an infectious love and warmth for children. Children enjoy her boundless energy and her youthful spirit.
