About the Director

Laurel Davis

Laurel Davis, Director of The Tutoring Link, is a special education teacher with over 20 years of experience. She has taught in and out of the classroom and has worked as an advocate for students. She is certified in the Orton-Gillingham method of language instruction by the Association of Orton Gillingham Practitioners and Educators and is an International Dyslexia Association certified Structured Literacy Interventionist.  She holds a B.A. in Educational Psychology and is pursuing a Masters in Teaching.

Additionally, she is a Registered Yoga Teacher and a Twist Kids Yoga instructor. She has also studied Brain Gym, Linda Mood Bell and Handwriting Without Tears methods.

As an educator and parent she believes each child is a unique individual with their own strengths and talents.  Laurel’s creative and compassionate teaching helps students develop confidence and reach their goals by encouraging and celebrating each step along the way to success.

Meet Our Tutors

Mia Aguirre
Mia is the valedictorian at East Mecklenburg High School. She helps students in middle and high school with Math.

Jessica Agyei
Jessica is certified in Special Education K-12, English
Middle-High School. She has been teaching and tutoring
for over ten years. She also specializes in SAT/ACT prep
and college essay writing

Lee Anthony
Lee teaches Kindergarten at Movement Charter School. She tutors reading and math to K-5 students.

Caitlin Fuller
Caitlin teaches at Huntingtowne Farms Elementary and works with students grades K-5 in reading and math.

Giovanna Guerra
Maestra Gio teaches Spanish and is an Early Childhood Teacher with more than 30 years of experience working with children in Early Stimulation and Development Areas. She also has a musical background and completed the “Music Together” Teacher Training workshop. In 2012 she started her Spanish Language Academy with a musical immersion program in Charlotte, North Carolina for children aged 3-12. 
Her favorite quote is “Teachers who love teaching, teach children to love learning.”

Ashleigh Lanzone
Ashleigh has been a special education teacher for 12 years and will be going into her 13th year this fall. She has taught in both the self contained and resource settings and her heart is with the kindergarten and first graders, although teaching is truly where she is meant to be. Ashleigh graduated with her Bachelor’s in Elementary Education and her Master’s in Special Education from McKendree University and obtained her Autism Spectrum Disorders Certification from UNCC. She is currently working on her PhD in Special Education Leadership. Ashleigh also won Teacher of the Year in 2021 and was the EC Director for three years for Monroe Charter Academy. While she is not working, she enjoys traveling, spending time with her family and friends and going to Disney! She cannot wait to work with your family!

Dave Miller
Dave teaches upper level math and has a background in engineering.

Debbie Smith
Seeing the look of “I get it or I did it” on a child’s face after they have successfully used a strategy is one of her greatest joys. Empowering a child to be independent and feel in control of their own learning is her goal. She has a Masters in Teaching in special education and works for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. Orton Gillingham training has proven to be a great resource and guide to successfully teaching children to read and build a love of reading. She is originally from Pennsylvania and received a B.S. from the University of Pittsburgh. She enjoys spending time with her 21 year old daughter, Madison, singing,dancing, cooking and exploring Charlotte. Debbie works with students K-5 in reading and math.

Amanda Turici
Amanda has taught all over the world as a teacher with the Peace Corps. She works with K-5 students in reading and math.
